Resources in Marriage Preparation and Marriage Enrichment

Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment

What is ACME?

With a national office in Winston Salem, N.C., The Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment is an international, nonprofit, non-sectarian organization whose purpose is to promote better marriages by providing enrichment opportunities and resources that strengthen couple relationships and enhance personal growth, mutual fulfillment and family wellness.

A.C.M.E. consists of married couples dedicated to enriching their own marriages and other marriages in their communities. Trained lay-couples facilitate various types of events throughout the United States, Canada and several other countries. Professionals in marriage enrichment and related fields are also members.

Who is A. C. M. E. for?

Couples who value their marriage and want their relationship to be strong and enduring. Couples who want to learn skills and have experiences that help them increase their marital intimacy and mutual understanding. Couples committed to the present and future growth of their marriage. Couples interested in promoting healthy marriages in their community.

What does A. C. M. E. do?

  • Train Leader Couples: A.C.M.E. has developed an outstanding program for training and certifying married couples for enrichment leadership. Although A.C.M.E training is nonsectarian, religious groups frequently send couples for training in well established marriage enrichment principles which can be adapted to different religious traditions. Leader couples use marriage enrichment principles to facilitate events according to their own styles.

  • Promote various types of events: Leader couples in local chapters lead various types of events which generally have the same distinctive features. A.C.M.E.'s approach to marriage enrichment stresses partners talking to each other about their relationship (dialogue). Events focus on couple strengths and relationship growth and on couples helping other couples. The emphasis is on group processes, but participation is always voluntary. Leaders share their personal experiences rather than advise or lecture. A.C.M.E’s programs are educational in nature and are not intended as therapy or counseling.

  • Disseminate marriage enrichment information: The national office in Winston Salem acts as a clearing house for marriage enrichment resources and information. The office also answers inquires directs interested couples to local groups and specific events.
