Couple Communication

Stories from Couple Communication

Usually we think of teaching the CC Program to a couple - apart from the rest of their family system. Read two stories from instructors who tell about two generations taking the course.

A mother saw an ad for the COUPLE COMMUNICATION Program and thought it might be of help to her married daughter and husband who were experiencing problems in their relationship. Then within days, a friend of the husband's family called about the same young couple. With encouragement from both sides of the family, the couple took the course privately. Once involved, they were eager to have their parents learn the program, too, and asked their parents to participate, as a support for their relationship. As a result, the whole family system was impacted and transformed.

A single mom came with her teenage son, learning the program privately in the context of family therapy. The mom was extremely bright, competent and not prone to listen to anybody, including her son. Before her turn at the listening mat was over, the young man was in tears because he finally said some things to mom she had never allowed him to say. She became very angry, not at her son, but at the instructor! However, she came back the next week with an apology, because she had recognized that her inability to listen had cost her three marriages to men she had genuinely loved.
