General Assembly
Disciples Volunteering
Local Mission Work at General Assembly, Portland!
Plans are underway to continue our tradition of making a
difference in the community we "descend"upon for
assembly. A local committee has already confirmed several
projects for both a pre-event and work on Monday and Tuesday
of the Assembly. AND we are very excited about two projects
to take place in the convention center so everyone can be
involved!

During Assembly

available for a fee.

Something new for all Assembly participants:
- Knitting prayer shawls. Many churches have started knitting
prayer shawls for the chronically ill. As they knit, they
pray for the recipient. We'll teach anyone who wants to
learn, how to knit! People can sit and learn to knit and
then take it in to the business sessions to work on! Shawls
can be taken home or given to an organization in Portland.
See PDF document for more details.
PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING YARN and NEEDLES!
- Assembly blood drive: We're looking to gather 100 pints
per day! Offer your arm and a few minutes of your time and
you can save a life!
- "Quilts of Hope."
Simple quilts made ahead of time and brought to the convention
center to be tied. We'll have quilts laid out so EVERYONE
at the assembly can come and tie at least one knot. (Download
the PDF file or MS
Word document.)
- Register to participate.
Our goal? Have everyone experience being called by Jesus
into service.
Watch for info on how YOUR congregation can make and bring
a quilt to be tied! They will then be taken back to your community
to homeless shelters, or homes for abused women or wherever
you deem they are needed.
