Nurturing Teachers for a Lifetime of Teaching

It's not one question. It's two. How do we recruit and how do we retain committed, caring teachers? Without question, the answer to recruiting is good, solid, meaningful and relational teacher training. A well-loved and trained volunteer will make teaching a lifestyle.

Five reasons for Teacher Training

  • To impart the vision. Volunteers who understand the primary goal of the ministry will function at a higher level than those who are just filling space.
  • To build team spirit. Every person needs to feel he or she is part of something very special and significant.
  • To offer encouragement. Working in a classroom with no support, week after week, can be a lonely job.
  • To provide fellowship time. Volunteers who teach should be given opportunities for fellowship with one another. Opportunities for teacher training can become their Sunday School Class, a place to grow and connect with others.
  • To equip volunteers. It is essential to equip volunteers to understand the learners with whom they are working, and to help them learn new teaching techniques and strategies.

Teachers, especially those who are properly trained, are a critical asset for a successful Christian Education ministry.
