Discovering New Ways to Spread an Old Message
From the beginning of the Church, evangelism has been one of the
central practices, which Jesus himself instituted, giving instruction
to his disciples on how to carry out this particular task (see the
Gospel of Matthew 28:18-20).
From the beginning of the Campbell and Stone movements in the early
1800s, through their merger in the 1830s, the mission was less about
becoming a denomination and more about a passion for spreading the
Gospel to the American frontier. It was about evangelism. The movement
grew in spiritual depth and numbers, not because of a new denomination
or the emergence of a new church, but because this movement had
a passion for the good news of Jesus Christ and the spreading of
his teachings.
Does your congregation continue that passion for the good news
of Jesus Christ? If so, are you sharing it? How? If not, the Office
of Evangelism stands ready to serve as a vital resource dedicated
to helping congregations connect to some of the effective tools
available to assist in evangelistic efforts. If your congregation
is passionate about evangelism, you're invited to share your experiences
with DHM. R. Wayne Calhoun Sr., the minister of evangelism, invites
congregations to work with DHM staff, finding new ways to spread
an old message!
