NAPAD Visioning Conference Update:
Women
Vision II draft: Cultivate leadership
of women in ministry
Goals:
- Educating NAPAD and Disciples congregations about the role of
Pacific/Asian women as church leaders (clergy and laity).
- Providing opportunities for NAPAD women to: model leadership,
participate in interim ministry, preach, intern in congregations
and other units of the church.
- Establishing a travel fund for NAPAD women to expand their ministries.
- Connecting with racial/ethnic women in ministry.
- Working toward having NAPAD women in congregational, regional,
or general manifestations.
Background: Because scripture
calls us (Gal 3:28) "There is neither Jew or Greek, slave or free,
male or female, (lamb or lion) for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Issues/Concerns:
- Acceptance (clergy working within church)
- Support (not many women)
- Employment (not in NAPAD or church as whole) All areas relate
to leadership (Laity & Clergy).
Note: Only six NAPAD clergy women in last 20 years; two retired,
two chaplains, one unpaid co-pastor, one unemployed.
