Transition Team update

The Transition Team met in Torrance, Calif., to further NAPAD's goals and move our group into the future. We wanted to post these so everyone is informed as to the goals that were set for our group. The business items that were discussed during our stay in Torrance were as follows: youth/young adult council, NAPAD's Women, church life, theology, NAPAD convocation, structure, and General Assembly.

Here are the goals that were set for each of the various task groups:

Youth/Young Adults:

  • Forming a distinct Youth/YA.

Proposal: affirm creation of two distinct groups for youth and young adults, each group consisting of 15-18 members.

At NAPAD 2002 Convocation, the two groups will officially split and
    serve independently.

Women:

  • Three goals by 2002:

In order of women to be accepted as clergy, we need to give them
the opportunity to preach. Schedule for churches to invite women clergy to
come and preach at their local church.

NAPAD Convocation is not enough time to determine what we
need. Create a Women's Task Force Team. Asking various congregations for
    contact people in their congregation.

Find the women leaders in the various NAPAD congregations.

Church life :

  • Create a new church for the future: keeping multi-racial congreagations rather than separating races.
  • NAPAD 2001: New Church Conference: an opportunity to recruit pastors and new church leaders.
  • Working with United Church of Christ (UCC) and other denominations

Theology:

  • Address issues regarding sexuality
Teach Disciples history to the new ministers
  • Forming of Theological Center for Asian minister training

NAPAD Convocation 2002:

  • Hosted at Chapman University
  • Convocation committee given power to structure and recruit keynoter and workshop leaders without approval of Transition Team

Structure:

  • NAPAD has outgrown it's present home in DHM. Where to house NAPAD in the future?
