Disciples Home Missions, in cooperation with Communications Ministries staff, has a new Web-based Ministry Positions Center. This new service will allow congregations, regions, general ministries and other Disciples institutions to list currently open positions of ministry for which they are seeking potential candidates.
Such position postings can remain online from two to twelve weeks after they are posted. After their listing expires, they will automatically be removed. The system also allows for a further extension of such listings, if needed. Once positions are listed, prospective candidates will then be able to view information regarding the positions that are currently available, including possible attached documents or Web links.
The Rev. Warren Lynn, director of the Office of Search and Call, notes that this new system for listing ministry position openings provides the foundation and potential for a "comprehensive denomination-wide system of listing all available positions of ministry from which potential candidates can discern where God may be leading them in future ministry endeavors."
The fulfillment of such potential, in good Disciples fashion, rests with those Disciples organizations that are seeking new ministerial leadership to list their available positions on this new system.
In testing this new Internet resource, the Rev. Richard Spleth, Indiana Regional Minister and member of the General Commission on Ministry, said, "Excellent! This will be a great addition … Looking forward to the launch of this (new Web site)."
Lynn added that he hopes this new service "becomes widely used as one of many valuable spiritual tools available for helping Disciples congregations and ministers listen for God’s lead in their lives."
