Disciples-specific resources

Study resources for your congregation

Have you thought about studying issues related to the environment but were not sure where to start? We recommend these publications as the perfect place to start:

  • Earth Ministry: Ecumenical organization providing resources for your congregation. Publisher of the highly acclaimed books, Simpler Living, Compassionate Life, Food & Faith and the Greening Congregations Handbook.
  • Green Sanctuary: Information about the Unitarian initiative to certify Disciples churches as green sanctuaries.
  • The Northwest Earth Institute, an environmental nonprofit that motivates people to examine personal values through discussion and study groups on topics such as voluntary simplicity, deep ecology, place, sustainable living, globalization and children.
  • Earth Bible.
  •  Rooted in God's Word and Lands: A new resource for study,  worship, and action on land stewardship, now available from NCC's Public Land Stewardship Initiative. The new guide contains background information on land issues, sermon starters, a bulletin insert for a themed worship service, suggestions for adult and youth study activities, and ideas for personal and congregational action. Visit www.nccecojustice.org then select "Land" under issues in the sidebar to access the resources.
  • Capsules newsletter.
  • National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Working Group: Learn more about the Working group by visiting the Web site at www.nccecojustice.org/. DHM staff person, Angela Herrmann, serves as the denominational representative to the Working Group.
