Farm workers: Who Feeds You?
When we think of those who feed us, we seldom think of the farm workers that labor in the fields picking the produce that eventually becomes the meal we eat. These farm workers live out their lives working in a system that allows for their physical, financial and even spiritual exploitation. We owe a great debt of gratitude to these farm workers who make our lifestyles possible, and we owe them the assistance and advocacy it takes to change the conditions under which they work.
You and your congregation can become part of the solution to the oppression and exploitation that farm workers face by joining the new Disciples Farm Worker Ministry (DFWM). DFWM is in the process of formation under a Leadership Council that is organizing to provide information and networking to persons and congregations committed to Farm Worker Ministry.
Please consider joining the Disciples Farm Worker Ministry. Suggested dues are $25 per year (more if you can, less if you can't). Make out your check to Disciples Home Missions, designating it to "Disciples Farm Worker Ministry." Send the check to: Jennifer Riggs, DHM Liaison for DFWM, Disciples Home Missions, P.O. Box 1986, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1986.
At this time, most communication with DFWM members is happening by e-mail. Please include your e-mail address, along with your name, address, telephone number, and the name of your congregation.
