Biography

Angela Herrmann.

Angela Herrmann is the director of Web site development for Disciples Home Missions. As director, she is responsible for creating a comprehensive strategy for the design and use of the DHM Web site. To that end, she:

  • coordinates the appearance of all DHM Web pages with a goal of consistency and quality;
  • coordinates DHM's plans with denominational strategies as they evolve;
  • assists DHM programs with updates, revisions and development of online materials.

This list is not exhaustive, as she continually seeks new and innovative ways to use technology to promote DHM's work. Additionally, she has co-led four Assembly workshops for congregational webmasters and based on responses from those workshops, she partnered with other Disciples webmasters and communicators to develop a two-day workshop for congregational webmasters in March 2004.

In addition to her Internet work, Angela has been instrumental in launching an innovative approach to environmental awareness through Return to the Garden, a project promoting community gardening among congregations. Total participants since 2005 now number 85. She currently serves as a member of the National Council of Churches of Christ Eco-Justice Working Group.

Prior to joining the DHM staff, Angela served as associate editor of The Disciple magazine from June 1998 to December 1999. As a writer and photographer, Angela's work has appeared in Disciples-related, Indianapolis-area, and national publications (and even three international publications). Angela has co-led overseas missions trips in partnership with the Division of Overseas Ministries and the Indiana Region, in addition to participating in a F.A.S.T. project in West Virginia and a Vision Builders! project in Washington State.

Special recognitions in 2007 included the Hoosier Environmental Council for her volunteer contributions to an Alliance to save an old-growth forest within Indianapolis and Central Indiana Commuter Services for her efforts to promote alternative transportation among co-workers.

Angela holds a Masters degree in Earth Literacy from St. Mary of the Woods College, Terre Haute, Ind., and is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., where she studied Spanish and journalism. She also holds a certificate in Information Technology from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind. When she's not working, Angela enjoys hiking, cycling, and gardening. She is a member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis.
