New Day Study Resoures: Body and Soul Promotional
Skit
A masseuse is giving a massage to customer (they happen to
be friends)—a massage where the customer is sitting up
would be better than a massasge where the customer is lying
down though the customer could prop up on elbows for scene
Marge is the masseuse.
Amy is the one receiving the massage.
Marge: (giving good back rub—shoulders and neck massage)
Amy: groans—(deep and loud—like a groan of relief)
Marge: (continuing rub)
Amy: groans again—(deeper, louder, longer)
Marge: (continuing rub—could be making expressions
when Amy groans)
Amy: groans again (even more than before )
Marge: God knows the groanings of the soul!
Amy: God knows I'm beat. I mean with putting in overtime,
running the kids to their stuff, single parenting is getting
me down.
Marge: Let God pick you up.
Amy: Come on Marge—God wants me to do my part even
if it does wear me out. Isn't it somewhere in the Bible that
God will only give you what you can take ...
Marge: Well, maybe concerning temptation, but I'm talking
about day to day stuff.
Amy: Like God's gonna help me load my dishwasher when I
get home?
Marge: Why, yes, and God'll help with the laundry too!
Amy: You've been watching too many angel shows, Marge!
Marge: No, we have this new study at church, and ...
Amy: (cutting in) Church? I think churchgoers will put me
down—you know—the divorce and all and I really don't
want to be around any men right now ...
Marge: Well, this is with our women's ministries, and the
study is great. It's called Body and Soul.
Amy: I do remember learning that we should love the Lord
with our heart, mind, and soul—so where does the body
come in?
Marge: Well, in my line of work, the body comes in to me
(Laughs)—like you came in to for a massage to help with
stress
Amy: So-o-o ... ??
Marge: Actually, I commit whatever I do to the Lord, and
when I stay in touch with God, God helps my whole being—I
feel better, I stay well ...
Amy: You mean like when you are down or stressed—it's
a lot easier to pick up a bug?
Marge: Yeah, but with God, you can pick up your spirits.
Amy: God knows, I could use a pick-me-up!
Marge: Why don't you come to the study with me? I'd love
to have you as my guest, and ...
Amy: Oh, I don't know . .
Marge: Well, what have you got to lose? We have good fellowship,
and the study is really good.
Amy: It would be good to talk to adults for a change.
Marge: And you will find there is support. This study is
also helping us to get to know each other on a different level—the
eyes really can be windows to the soul, and we are learning
to see each other in a different light—why don't you
come and give it a try?
Amy: Well ...
Marge: It's next Tuesday. I'll pick you up—say 7ish?
Amy: Okay, this body could use some soul
Marge: You got soul, silly! ... we're just gonna wake it
up!
(They both get up and do a little jive to:)
